Hi ,I have an under heat pad that I have under my sheets or move to sofa if I need to ..and I love it ! I also love a nice hot bath ,that is 15 min of almost pain free house lol. So yes I think heat is a great comfort for me and my pain .
    Happy Easter weekend 🙂

Hi , Happy Easter 🙂 I am on GAbapentin 3 x 300 a day , I would say it makes no difference ,I would say still have pain ..however..on the occasions when I have said right in cutting down ,I have noticed after about four or five days ,my pain is much worse and so too my walking ability . So for me I will say they do help , I also take cocodomol, when and if required ,which works differently but again does help . I didn’t get on with tramadol or amitriptyline, and am loathed to try any others.
I do find keeping active ,and putting in rest periods also helps. I stretch regularly throughout the day and I do use meditation/ relaxation music/hypnotherapy which help. When things are just too much I have a nice hot bath and for 15 mins i have no pain !! 😀 bliss!!.
I hope you find your help . X

Hi Joyce ,I’ve been reading your updates 🙂 such a hard decision isn’t it. You are at the same point as me . I’m working on physio and gym for stretches and core work ,its hard when I’m bad ,but I’m getting better at taking rest time and use Epsom baths at a nice hot temp that’s the only relief ,short lived but oh so nice . Stay strong and lots of TLC

Hi Lee ,thank you for your kind words. Yes Ive been practising mindfulness and cbt for a while , two recent accidents threw me off for a while ,but back on track now 🙂
Im busy reading a very good book called Life After Pain Dr Kuttner ,its all about reframing the way we see/handle our pain..a way to reprogram the pain nerve cycle. It takes a lot of time ,but the way I see it anything that may help is worth trying .
Hope youre ok Joyce anmd that everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather (uk )

Good morning Joyce, the rack thing ,as far as I know is no longer used in UK by physios, they didn’t think it did any good. There is a portable one you can get for home ,several makes, but it means getting down on floor 🙂 . I’ve been trying a mind thingy ,where you accept the pain knowing its doing no damage, and just get on with stuff ..sometimes it helps, but even if you know its doing no damage it still hurts !.
I am honestly wondering myself whether to contact consultant and say yes to decompression but no to fusion. Since having 2 rear end accidents within the last 4 months my leg pain is so much worse and its interfering so much with my mental state and my life . Pain killers don’t touch it ,just make me want to sleep .Ive been very low lately with it,like all my enthusiasm has gone because to do anything hurts so much..I know that’s not the attitude and have always been of the mind its hurts whether I do something or not ,so might as well do something ..but at present I just cant be bothered . lol 🙂
He shouldn’t discharge you but put you on a SOS list which last 12 months ..that’s what Im on ,so if I change my mind I phone them up and things get going without going back to the start.
    have a lovely sunday .:)

Hi Joyce, I had this same decision a couple of months ago. I read up the info spine surgeon pointed me to and weighed up everything, for me. I decided to leave it, I didn’t like the odds, also many said within 2-4years pain was back worse or other discs degenerate needing more fusion etc. So I said no, if it got to the point I couldn’t walk to my car or got cauda then I’d think again. He put me on his sos list for 12 months, so if I change my mind in that time, it’ll all kick in. I do as much as I can, normally after 2 hours I need to rest, ice, heat, etc for the next few hours, then do a couple more hours doing stuff. But it’s a day by day thing and some days, like today, I’m not able to do much at all, I get tired quickly. Whatever you decide, best wishes, look after yourself

Hi Rose ,thank you for your post. Sorry to hear of your problems. I walked a little today and I mean a little and oh my leg !! I’m sure it’s coming from back down but the knee pain is awful. It’s tender on the bone on the out side and underneath at front . Blinking pain a pain 🙂
