Thank you all of you for posting back to me. Im a few days in now and the shock is receding a little. I just want to see the neurologist and get on with it now. On a positive note I suppose a new diagnosis, whatever it is will hopefully open the door to new treatments/medications etc. Its not nice having to wait though, even a short amount of time. I cannot imagine having to wait for months. Apparently our waiting times are made worse as the trust has lost two neurologists recently so I suppose the emergencies come first.

Thank you Hope I appreciate your message a lot. Ive been like this for 30 years but the accident has made it much worse. To a large extent I have accepted it but generally it isn’t so out of control

    Hi Sarah
I have spinal stenosis and it is very painful at times. This site is very helpful and you can learn a lot by just looking through the posts. I feel that for me the most important thing was to learn to accept my pain and live with it rather than against it. I know from my own experience that this is sometimes easier said than done. I helps me though because it helps me be friends with my body and want to look after it, pacing, resting, taking medication properly and as prescribed. When the pain becomes unbearable be kind to yourself and do whatever makes you feel most comfortable. One thing that particularly helped me was hypnotherapy from a good well qualified hypnotherapist. It has allowed me to take a lot more control of my conditions and to understand that I am in charge to a larger degree than I thought.

Thank you both for answering my post. I’ve just been prescribed lidocaine patches and so far I’m struggling with them because even the contact of them on my skin is intolerable. But I’m going to persevere. I’ve go a pain clinic on Wednesday so I’m going to discuss alternatives when I see my consultant

I feel for you. I had mine stopped a few years ago despite having great problems walking because of my pain.
All I can say is appeal over and over as a good deal of people are successful after appeal.

Also I have been recording my pain on a pain app on my phone so it can help me to explain how it affects me etc. Very useful I think, the app is called Manage My Pain Pro.

Last night my pain was so bad despite tramadol, amyytriptaline, paracetamol and ibuprofen, that I didn’t go to sleep until 6.30 am and was awake again at 8am. Today I have been having difficulty walking both with pain and somehow my legs feel like they may just give up after a few minutes walking and it has been getting progressively worse throughout the day. I rang the pain clinic and spoke to a very helpful lady who has emailed my pain doctor. So heres hoping that I will hear from them soon. At this rate I won’t be able to walk by the end of the week.

Hello thank you so much for your support and ideas. Unfortunately my daughter has been in hospital for the last two weeks with a serious illness so my needs have gone to the back of the queue. On Monday I’m going to ring the pain clinic and explain my position and ask for help. Who knows maybe I’ll get lucky 😉

I use Boots for my prescriptions and some time ago I was asked to attend a medicine review. I said that as I have a degree in pharmacology and am an ex nurse, I didn’t really feel it was necessary but I was put under a bit of pressure to attend. I did and as expected found it to be a total waste of time because they couldn’t tell me anything that I didn’t know already. I understand that everyone is not like me and that many people would benefit from a medicine review, but at the time I did wonder what was going on. Since that time I have not been asked again

Hi Nicolas Ive had a cervical fusion C5-6 C6-7. If there is anything specific you want to know please ask. I found the recovery to be quite a long process. I don’t think that I was prepared enough at the time and I wish I had explored all other alternatives before I had it done. It did solve or at least halt the problem I had but unfortunately left me with nerve damage so really replaced one problem with another. Im sorry my experience is not so positive but I do think that it is important to consider all sides of it. Again, please ask if you want any specific questions

Thank you Jan I can’t carry things on my back because it irritates the nerve damage in my arms. I think a small trolly might be of help though.
I was told that I could only have a blue badge if I could not walk more than a few meters. Its so unfair because my difficulties are limiting my ability to do my job
