    Hi Andrea,
I’m so pleased that you’ve been given some fresh hope. I hope it all goes well for you. Much better news for you, isn’t it.

    Hi there,

I’ve found the 111 service very helpful if you are in any doubt. Mind you, it sounds as if they and A and E are absolutely snowed under at the moment.

When I rang them, I spoke to a nurse who advised me to go to our local out of hours service. All my details had been passed on to the gp who was on duty so I was sorted out pretty quickly.

And why does everything take up so much time to get from department to department. I’ve received 2 letters (in separate envelopes!) from our local hospital about my long-awaited hip op. They were dictated on 5th December, typed on 17th December and I finally got them this morning – 6th January. It’s still not clear which date the 18 week pathway goes from. That date has been omitted! Ah well, I guess we have to blame Christmas!

    Hi Di,

Do you mean that you’re not getting notification of posts via email? I’ve just checked, and that service stays in place even when you log out of the site.

    Hi Di,

I leave my tablet on all the time, but if I switch it off and then on again, I find that I’m automatically logged out. Easy as that! Also I’ve got google to store that particular info so that as soon as I type ‘a’ into the log in box, it fills the rest in for me.

I’m also hopeless at remembering usernames and passwords and as I can only shop online these days, I’ve made a useful file in ‘my documents’ called ‘odd info’ where I can jot down all the bits and pieces I need to remember. There’s nothing worse than having to go through the rigmarole of changing passwords is there?!

But I am aware that this might not be the most secure way to store my info, but honestly, what is?

    Hi again Sarah,

Yes, I’ve seen your pictures on the craft site. They’re lovely.

If amytriptiline don’t suit you, why not ask your gp for a drug in the same family of drugs such as dosulepin (dothiepin) instead. I didn’t get on with amytript but am fine on a low dose of dosulepin at night.

    All the best. Annie x

    Hi Sarah,

Yes, its very hard living with constant pain, particularly if you aren’t sleeping well. It sounds as if you are going through a very bad spell of it at the moment. We all need the warmth of summer to make us feel better. I can understand that you don’t want to take too many strong drugs and I guess its something that you’ve discussed with your gp. I do hope you are soon over this tough time. Are you still doing your lovely painting?

    Hi Laura,

The squirrels have dug up most of my crocuses!

I don’t know when my op will be but I’m being put through the system. With things as they are, I don’t expect it to be for months but I live in hope! I can’t wait to get back to my ‘normal’ pain.

Luckily my lovely gardeners have agreed to come along during the winter months as there’s always plenty to do, isn’t there.

I’m looking through the seed catalogues already.

No sign of my snowdrops yet. Roll on springtime.

I loved One Day, so I must read Us. I’m reading a first novel by Paula Daly – Just What Kind of a Woman Are You? It’s a ‘missing child’ novel set in the Lake District. It’s such a page turner, so I’m going to order her second book from the library now.

Happy Reading in 2015! Annie x

    Hi all our gardeners!

Today I ventured outside and got my willing partner to plant 80 gladiolus Byzantium corms. Had suddenly realised that they should’ve been planted in November. The only thing is, I missed doing it myself but can’t as am waiting (and waiting!)for a hip replacement and at the moment I can’t bend.

These gladioli are not the big brash ones, but the sort that grow wild in Turkey. They have a small purple spiked flower.

Is anyone else looking forward to seeing bulbs appearing. The daffodils are on the move now too. Lovely to look forward to spring.

    Hi Navchic,

That’s such a good New Year’s resolution and one that we should all try to stick to! I do hope that 2015 is a better year for you and all of us on this site. And especially to Jan, without whom it wouldnt exist for us!

    HAPPY 2015 TO ALL!

    Hi Kate,

Well at least you’ve ‘jumped through the first hoop’. I think you are right – have a good sleep, get rid of your pneumonia and then reflect on how you feel about things. I can assure you that you will think very differently when you are feeling well again because your pain levels will fall and you will be able to think more clearly. And go along with what they’ve offered you. At least you will be meeting up with people who are in the same boat!

    Hi Kate,

That doesn’t sound very good. No wonder youve been feeling so ill and depressed.

So now you should keep warm and just concentrate on getting better.

I guess you won’t be trying to get to that pain clinic appointment?

    Look after yourself.

    Hi again Kate,

Just another thought, if you’ve got flu, your pain levels will be higher until its over. And also it will be making you feel more fed up than usual, so be kind to yourself and take care. Good luck with getting on a pain management course.

    Hi Kate,

So sorry that you’re feeling so fed up, but Christmas is a time when, unfortunately, we are all expected to feel happy and bright even when we’re not!

But of course there’s hope for you. How long have you been in pain? Has it been diagnosed as chronic pain? If so, you should at least have been referred to your nearest pain clinic where you will be offered different ways of managing your pain and you would also have your medication reviewed. You would also be offered physiotherapy, psychological help and various ways of pacing and coping with your pain. Pain can make us feel depressed and unable to cope.

So try and get through the dreaded holiday break by thinking beyond it. Then after Christmas, go back to your gp (any chance of finding a sympathetic one?), and ask to be referred on to a pain clinic asap.

We are all in the same boat on this site and quite often we hit a rough patch, so we all understand just what you’re going through.

    All the best, Annie x
