Happy Christmas to everybody on this site, and I hope you all have a low-pain 2020!

    Hi Mina,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I have CFS/ME as well as osteoarthritis in most of my joints.

I can’t stress enough that by ‘chatting’ to people in a similar position to yourself, you will combat many feelings of loneliness or helplessness that symptoms of Fibro can cause.

I joined up many years ago at a very low time for me. There I met people with kindness and empathy who knew exactly what I was going through.

If you take a look at the Contact group, you may find friends to share your interests with. Some of us have got together to play online Scrabble. (You’re very welcome to join us if you’re a Scrabbler!). It was nice to actually meet up with one of our members.

I do hope your symptoms are not too bad at the moment.

    All the best!

    Hi Raphael,

I was taken off Fentanyl patches very quickly and it was horrendous until I had built up to the correct dose of Longtec and Shortec. The same thing happened with changing from Butrans to Fentanyl. Absolute agony for a few days. I hate to argue with my GP, but I’m sure this wasn’t the most humane way of switching from one drug to another!

    Good luck Raphael!

    Hi Stuart,

What strength Fentanyl are you on?

I used to be on Fentanyl patches. When I explained to my GP that they weren’t lasting for 72 hours, I was put on a higher dose, rather than reduce the time to 48 hours.

But eventually my body got used to a very high dose, so I was taken off the drug, thankfully.

I’m now taking Longtec, backed up with Shortec. Of course, as with any opioid, I’m having to take a stronger dose every year or so.

We’re all between a rock and a hard place but, for me, there seems to be no safe alternative.

Do let us know how you’re getting on.

    Hi Kevin,

You were given good advice about contacting people who also live day to day with chronic pain. On this forum we all understand just what you’re going through. It seems as if you’re on your own, but I can assure you that you’re not!

I’ve had spinal pain for the past 20 years and it was such a relief to find this site. I soon found the help and support I was looking for.

If I were you, I’d have a good look through all the good advice on how to cope and manage your pain elsewhere on the site.

I’m sure that once the Bank Holiday is over, other people will turn up with good advice for you.

All the best and be assured that you’re not on your own.

I’d love to see Roma, but our broadband speed isn’t fast enough to get Netflix! I hope they release a DVD. Have just received the Bohemian Rhapsody DVD. Looking forward to that.

Watched The Death of Stalin at the weekend. Very funny. Produced by the same people as The Thick of It. X

That’s a shame, but I hope in years to come, there’ll be more testing of cannabis-based medicines and that eventually GPs WILL be allowed to prescribe them.

It seems strange that our GPs CAN prescribe potentially dangerous and addictive opioids, but not something which may be effective without being as addictive.

    Hi Helen,

I think you’re right – it’s the placebo effect which maybe works for a while. But who cares as long as it means less pain!

As I’ve mentioned before, I still have some white and green oils left, so I might give them another try.

But there again, I think a bit of warm weather and sunshine would help us all just as much?! Roll on spring!

    Good luck with it all!

    Hi Helen,

Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t stockpile my medication because my GP surgery keeps a very strict control on the amount of drugs I can order.

Like you, I wouldn’t be able to cope without my pain medication. Maybe I could manage without some CFS drugs.

We’ll all just have to hope that the flow of drugs from Europe isn’t affected if and when Brexit is finally sorted out!

    Hi All,

    I’ve signed the petition too.

They’ve got over 10,500 now, and this means that the government ‘has to respond’ – whatever that means!

    Hi Christine,

Why don’t you ask Chloe if you could keep the device for another few weeks to see if, given time, it might work for you?

    Just a thought!
