UK Fibromyalgia have started a petition to change legislation so GPs can prescribe medical marijuana for fibromyalgia.

All people with chronic pain would benefit if this change could be made.

    Hi Jan

I’ve signed too….I so wish I could get it for pain ME. My understanding is that GPS are reluctant to prescribe it in any event ( ie. for MS) due to the cost.

Has anyone on this forum been prescribed it? It would be interesting to know.

    Best wishes
    Helen

Thanks to you both for signing and for your good wishes.

Re your question, Helen, I think we had someone on here who had been offered medical marijuana but he went for an SCS implant instead. That would have been via a Pain Clinic.

    Hi All,

    I’ve signed the petition too.

They’ve got over 10,500 now, and this means that the government ‘has to respond’ – whatever that means!

Yes, I wonder what it means! I think they have to have a debate?

Hi all, I’ve just looked it up:

“At 10,000 signatures you get a response from the government. At 100,000 signatures your petition will be considered for a debate in Parliament.”

    https://petition.parliament.uk/help

So there’s a long way to go before the petition is even considered for debate.

I’ve reposted the original post below. Please pass the request to all your friends:

The Government has replied to the above Petition.
You can read their response here:

The short answer is ‘no’, Pain Specialists only can prescribe.

That’s a shame, but I hope in years to come, there’ll be more testing of cannabis-based medicines and that eventually GPs WILL be allowed to prescribe them.

It seems strange that our GPs CAN prescribe potentially dangerous and addictive opioids, but not something which may be effective without being as addictive.

It is a shame, but things move very slowly in the medical world, as we know.
